Ranking the 5 greatest NBA centers by decade

First-generation NBA centers dominated the league in the 1950s. 

George Mian led this drive for seven seasons with the Minneapolis Lakers from 1949 to 1956. 

Bill Russell finished second in the 1950s despite playing only three seasons. Russell won two NBA titles with the Celtics in 1957 and 1959. 

Center Neil Johnston played eight seasons for the Warriors from 1952 to 1959. Johnston led the Warriors to a 1956 title, six All-Star appearances

Macaulay played all 10 seasons for the Celtics and Hawks from 1950 to 1959. He won one NBA title in 1958, seven All-Stars, and four All-NBA. 

Foust never won an NBA title, but just missed the Hall of Fame with eight All-Star and two All-NBA Team choices for the Pistons from 1951 to 1955.

Ed Macauley and Larry Foust complete the 1950s top five centers.
