Emma Raducanu's Australian Open plans confirmed as special ranking boosts her.

Raducanu will play the season-opening Grand Slam at Melbourne Park in January thanks to her unique status after an injury-plagued 2023 tennis season

Since it was five places below the cut-off level, that unique rating of 103 did not qualify for the Australian Open main event.

Raducanu last played in a qualifying tournament at the US Open two years ago, when she had one of the best runs in tennis and any sport.

The 18-year-old became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam after winning her three qualifying matches and seven main draw matches, beating Leylah Fernandez in the final.

It propelled her to popularity, but growing pains and injuries slowed her.

She played only 10 matches in 2023, the last at the Stuttgart Open in April and having wrist and ankle surgery in May.

After receiving a wildcard, the 21-year-old will play in the Auckland Classic main draw in 2024.
