Don Nelson identifies the most Larry Bird-like player.

In addition to becoming one of the best NBA coaches, Nelson won five championships as a player, mostly with the Celtics

He coached Chris Mullin for a period when they were both with the Golden State Warriors

So Nelson said Mullin was basically the same player as Bird, except for being two inches shorter.

Nelson made a good analogy because Bird and Mullin played comparable styles that got them into the Hall of Fame.

Like save and share

Bird had greater defense, rebounding, and offense than Mullin. Nelson acknowledges that they had comparable practices during their league careers.

Bird and Mullin played against each other frequently in the NBA, and their play styles were very similar.

Nelson may be exaggerating, but Mullin was close to Bird, who was definitely the better player.
